SFC Augustus Marion Warren

September 12, 1929 ~ March 26, 2020 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

SFC Augustus Marion Warren, age 90, died Thursday, March 26th, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his father Fred Warren, mother Effie Sesler, brothers Glenn Branham, Dalton Warren, sister Juanita Restelli, great-granddaughter Edie Kate Lollis.

Mr. Warren is survived by a wife, Edith, four children: Mike,(Wendy), Randy (Laura), Steve, and Judy Cornelius (Jeff). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, Megan, Meredith, Hunter, Brandy, Andy, and Katherine as well as 11 great-grandchildren, Caroline, Keira, Anna, Austin, Brayden, Brylie, Cole, Cooper, Riley and Sawyer.

Sargent Warren served 20 years in the Army and is a veteran of the Korean War, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, Parachute Glider Badge, Parachute Badge with two bronze stars, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars. After retiring from the Army, SGT Warren taught Junior ROTC for 26 years at City, Central, East Ridge, and Ooltewah high schools. He also received the US Army's 2nd highest civilian award “The Outstanding Civilian Service Medal” for outstanding contribution to the US Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) spanning 30 years of dedicated service. He was also a member of the Tompkins Masonic Lodge #466.

Sargent First Class Warren's personal example of devotion and patriotism inspired three generations of high school students.  He taught by example and always dedicated himself to his students.  His JROTC tenure was marked by a steady stream of community leaders who have learned to be the best they could under his tutelage.

He served the US Army in both active duty and retired service in uniform for 46 years with distinction.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga TN. 

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Edie Kate Lollis Scholarship Fund through the Generosity Trust in Chattanooga.

Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation at the funeral home.
