Richard Edward Hargraves, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 in Pensacola, Florida. He was born March 9, 1932 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He served three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of UT-Chattanooga and worked for the American Water Company for 45 years. Richard was President of Indiana American Water Company upon retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Masonic lodge in Richmond, Indiana since 1992 and a member of OES in Greenwood, Indiana since 1994.
Richard enjoyed golfing, traveling, laughing, spending time with family, and took a lot of pride in his yard work. He was a provider, a man of integrity, a God-fearing man, and a spiritual leader in his family. He relocated many times during his life but would always remain faithful in his church attendance. He loved and served the Lord all his life and has left a legacy in his family.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Ervin B. Hargraves; his mother, Nellie Carroll Hargraves; siblings, James B. Hargraves, Mary Ann Vaughn, and Helen Joyce Rapier; and son, Richard Edward Hargraves, Jr. Those that will cherish and celebrate his life and memories are his wife of 26 years, Patsie Hargraves; daughters, Brenda Wheeler (Ron) and Patti Touchstone (Jason); four grandsons, Chris Hargraves (Marites), Patrick Hargraves (Katee), Richard E. Hargraves, III, and Nicholas Touchstone; three granddaughters, Shannan Sharpe, Jennifer Sharpe, and Abigail Touchstone; four great-grandchildren; brother, William E. "Gene" Hargraves; two step-children, Amy Hinds and Kevin Osborne; two step grandchildren, Shannon Fish (Travis) and Dakota Goble; three step great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces; and great-great nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Vaughn officiating.
Burial will be in Rock Spring Cemetary.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 12, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 3239 Battlefield Parkway, Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, 30742.
