Rev. James R. “Bob” Gilbert, 88, of Rossville went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He has lived in North Georgia since 1995 and attended Boynton United Methodist Church. Bob retired from the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church where he served churches in Tennessee and Georgia for 54 years. He loved Tennessee Volunteer football, camping and playing softball.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. James Floyd Gilbert and Ethel Grace Renegar Gilbert; along with a brother, John Stuart Gilbert.
Survivors include the love of his life of 68 years, Dorothy “Dot” Gilbert; sons, James R. Gilbert, Jr. (Juanita), Stuart Gregory Gilbert (Debbie), and David Alan Gilbert; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Friday at Boynton United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Walworth officiating. Entombment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holston Home for Children or the Boynton UMC Building Program.
