Rev. Horace Edward Crawford, age 81, of Ringgold went to his heavenly home on August 20, 2021.
Horace was born March 15, 1940 in McDonald Tennessee to Ottis Owen Crawford and Mattie Lee McDowell Crawford.
He was a devoted husband to Martha Swanson Crawford for 63 years. They were married in June 1958.
Horace is survived by his four children Joel (Lisa Hamby), Mike (Nina Clark), Gwen (Dan Hamby) & Randall (Sherrie Reed).
Thirteen grandchildren: Emily Crabtree (Eric), Stephanie Sullivan (Shannon) Rev, Joel Edward Crawford (Stacy), Rev. Andrew Crawford (Jennifer), Olivia McKeehan (Jared), Anna Landrum (Matt), Rebekah Cason (John David), Elizabeth Crawford, Daniel Hamby (Mary), Caleb Hamby (Caroline), Wendy Hamby, Megan Crawford, and Adam Crawford (Taylan).
Twenty-two great-grandchildren: Noah, Ava, Ellie, Lucy & Annie Crawford, Cooper, Lily & Annabelle Crawford, Jude, Nora & Miller McKeehan, Phoenix, Mattie, & Parker Landrum, Davis Crabtree. Mason, Owen, Katie & Matt Sullivan, Reed Crawford, Emerson Crawford (due November 2021) & Dante Hamby (due January 2022).
Horace was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, Fred, Billy & Jack Crawford, and two sisters, Barbara Lively & Nadine Wright. He is survived by sister Dorothy Woody and several nieces and nephews.
In the business world he developed three subdivisions in Catoosa County (Battlefield Estates, Three Notch Road Estates, & Lorie Hills Subdivision). Horace started working in masonry construction at age 15. Under his supervision many brick and mortar buildings were built in the Tri-State area. He built many homes in Catoosa County. He founded Chattanooga Precast in 1998 with his three sons which continues today. In 1983 he was awarded Catoosa County Soil Conservationist of the year by Bobby Plemons and Commissioner James Moreland.
Rev. Crawford was ordained in the ministry in October 1965 at New Liberty Baptist Church, Pastor James Langston. He pastored three churches: Bell View Baptist Church, Greenback Tennessee 1969-1970, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Chattanooga 1970-1988, and Valley Memorial Baptist Church, Chattanooga 1993-2016. Horace graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1992 from Covington Theological Seminary. He also had a weekly Sunday night radio broadcast called “Nightwatch Hour” on WDOD and WFLI from 1972-1985.
In his 56 years of ministry for the Lord Jesus many souls were won to Christ. He performed many baptisms, funerals, weddings, baby dedications and counseling services during his ministry.
The family will be having a private service on Sunday, August 29 at 1:30 in the afternoon at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. The Rev. Joel Edward Crawford II and Rev.
