Opal M. Hyde

September 22, 1927 ~ July 30, 2022 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

 Opal Maggie Hyde, 94 of Rossville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday July 30, 2022. 

Opal retired from Erlanger Hospital after working 25 years as a manager in the office of medical affairs. Mrs. Hyde also served as her husband's secretary before he retired from practicing law. 

Opal was a devout Christian and was a member of Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church and previously a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Hyde served in the choir during her memberships and will be remembered fondly for her beautiful singing voice and dedication to her beliefs. 

Opal was born on September 22, 1927 in Lynch, Kentucky where she lived briefly with her sister Joy and her parents. She was the daughter of a coal miner and her parents passed at young ages. Opal and her sister Joy were adopted by their aunt

Opal graduated from Lakeview High School and then Edmonson Business College. She married James S. Hyde, Jr.. PH.D. James Hyde and Opal were married for 57 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 2004. She is also preceded by her great-grandchild, Tyler Haley.

Opal will be greatly missed and is survived by her four children, Delisa H. Tanner-Mason of Chattanooga, Lieda H. Klein of Ringgold , and Nada Hyde and Eldon Hyde, both of Chattanooga; her nine grandchildren. Meesha A. Norman, Robert A. Tanner IV(Beau), Brandi Paris, Jerae K. Wallace, Thomas E. Hyde, Joshua Hyde, Sallie H. Berry, Michael S. Taylor, Dr. Cherub Robinette, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in the chapel on August 3, 1:30 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe with Pastor Jason Thomas officiating. A private interment will follow in Fischer Cemetery in Fort Payne, AL. with her grandchildren and great grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers.
