Tribute

Myrtice Delene Williams Boggs lost her battle with lung cancer on April 1, 2020, at her home in Rising Fawn, Georgia surrounded by her family and loved ones, at the age of 84. She had previously resided in the Rossville, Georgia area for over 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, A.C. “Bush” Boggs after spending over 30 years together. Her father was John B. Gordon Williams; her mother, Isabella Young Nelson; stepfather, Joseph William Nelson; sister, Janice Sue Williams Gregory; and half brother, Robert Benford “Bobby Williams. Her maternal grandparents were Jake F. and Della Young and paternal grandparents, Charles S. and Rosa Lee Williams.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Kay (Ronnie) Kilgore of Rising Fawn, Ga., Donna Sue Hill of Aiken, SC., and Martha Sue “Susie” Murphy of Aiken, SC; two granddaughters, Stacy Hurst (Tony) Cornett of Flat Rock, AL (whom she loved and raised as her own) and Christy Weldon (Lamar) Burrell of Trenton, Georgia; five great-grandchildren, Allison Taylor Burrell, Hannah Alysse Cornett, Kailey Grace Burrell, Emma Noel Cornett, and Hayden Anthony Cornett. Myrtice was born to the late John B. Gordon Williams and Isabella Young Williams in Johnson City, TN. She and her sister, Janice Sue, were raised by their maternal grandparents, Jake F. (whom she loved dearly) and Della Butler Young in the Raleigh-Durham, NC. area, until they later settled in the Aiken, SC. area.

She was a very hard worker and had worked most of her life as a single parent until she married A.C. “Bush” Boggs in 1970. At that time, she was able to be a homemaker and do some of the things she truly loved. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother and was the first one there if needed. She loved to read, play Bingo, watch Wheel of Fortune, cook (a gift she learned from her grandmother; she could make a meal out of nothing), and always loved cooking and baking for others. She was always very giving, not only to family, but she was the first one to cook or bake something for a new neighbor or for a family who had lost a loved one. Even today as we would sit down to eat a meal, if she didn’t see something on your plate that was hers, she would ask, “Where’s yours?” At Christmas, she loved making candy for everyone. She was the best candy-maker ever, baking divinity, peanut butter fudge, etc. She had a God-given talent for crocheting with thread. She made tablecloths, bedspreads, Christmas decorations, and doilies (I can remember Mom starching them and placing Coca Cola bottles around the edges so they would stand up). She enjoyed gardening and canning. She always said she wished she had a dollar for every canning jar she had washed as a child, something her grandmother made her do. Even though she said she hated it, she continued canning as an adult. Unlike most of us, she loved shopping at the grocery store, and I later realized this may be due to the fact that she and her sister grew up on a farm and all of their food had to be grown and preserved, so she most likely viewed the grocery store with the eyes of a child in a candy store. She was very outspoken and sometimes spoke before thinking, but always let you know what was on her mind. She was unique, one of a kind, just like her first name, Myrtice.
She was of Baptist faith and had previously been a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. before moving to the Trenton/Rising Fawn area in 2007 to be near her daughter and granddaughters. She will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones. We know you are truly at peace with your Lord and Savior in your Heavenly home. Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. will be in charge of the funeral arrangements. There will be no formal service or visitation at the funeral home due to the COVID-19. A private graveside service will be held on April 3, 2020 with Rev. Al Johnson officiating.
