Michael “Mickey” Joe Stephenson Sr. 

June 25, 1944 - September 20, 2020 (76 years)

Mickey passed away peacefully in the care of Community Hospice of Jacksonville Florida on Sunday morning, September 20, 2020.

Although Mickey was a native of Lafayette and lived many years in Ringgold Georgia, he retired and moved to Middleburg Florida. He professed his faith as Baptist. 

During Mickey’s life, he served as a photographer for the United States Army in Okinawa, Japan and then served in the Army Reserves. He aslo worked for a time at Combustion in Chattanooga, Tennessee and at Jimmy’s photos in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. Mickey retired from The Boilermakers and as Maintenance Planner at Sequoyia Nuclear Plant - T.V.A. in 2008. He went back to work for T.V.A. downtown until 2010. 

Mickey led a full life of many experiences and exciting hobbies. Some of his favorite hobbies included photography, tennis, and scuba diving. He had a love for fishing and custom rod tying, as well as playing golf. Mickey was an avid Florida Gator and S.E.C. football fan. His community ties included his membership in the Grand Lodge of Georgia Free and Accepted Masons, Tompkins #466, as well as becoming a 32nd degree Shriner.

Mickey is survived by his loving wife, Veneti Harris Stephenson of 57 years; his brother Stanley Stephenson (Sue) of Lafayette, GA; his son Michael “Mike” Joe Stephenson Jr. (Angie) of Middleburg, FL; and his daughter Jennifer Stephenson Carver (Chad) of Rossville, GA. As well as his four grandchildren: Paige Carver Irwin (Brandyn) of Chickamauga, GA; Michael “Trae” Joe Stephenson III (Melanie) of Bryceville, FL; Sumer Carver of Littleton, CO; Anthony “Tony” Jake Stephenson of Middleburg, FL; three great-grandchildren; plus several nieces and nephews.

Mickey was preceded in death by his father, Grady E. Stephenson Jr. and mother, Mary Ellen Cobb (J.L.) and his sister, Deardra White.

A graveside funeral service, open to all, will be held 11 AM, Thursday at  Lakewood Memory Gardens South 325 Greens Lake Road, Rossville GA.
