March 10, 1925 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Marjorie Campbell Tommey, 92, of Rock Springs, Georgia passed peacefully in her sleep at home January 9, 2018. Marjorie was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma March 10, 1925. She was one of nine children and the last of her generation for both family lines. She was the daughter of Maude Gillette and Clarence Campbell.

Marjorie’s father died of an infection during the Depression which forced her mother to place four of the youngest children into the Masonic Children’s Home. Marjorie was seven years old upon acceptance into the home. She was there with her sisters Jo Helen and Jean. She lived at the home for eleven years. She then moved to the YWCA from the time she was 18-22 years of age.

Marjorie received a business scholarship from the Eastern Stars. She began her business career with ALCOA and Dun & Bradstreet where she met Gene Paul Tommey. They married in May of 1948.  Gene served in the US Army and their assignments together included Lawton, Oklahoma; Houston, Texas; Enid, Oklahoma; Pusan, Korea and Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Marjorie loved flowers, song birds and words. She enjoyed sewing and quilting most of her active life. She passed on her love for these to three generations. Most of all she loved her family who she constantly encouraged and uplifted each one of them.  She had a strong faith in Christ, was a selfless giver, and a peacemaker.
