Marcheta Joyce Penland

Marcheta Joyce Penland, 89, of Fort Oglethorpe, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday November 4, 2023.  Marcheta was born September 2, 1934 in Rock Spring, GA, to the late Eugene and Frances Cooper.  She was a lifelong resident of the north Georgia area and was a member of Lakeview First Baptist Church and was retired from Peavine Baptist Church where she served as the secretary.  Marcheta was an avid reader and loved socializing with her family and friends.  She is preceded in death by her husband C.D. Penland; son Forest Penland; and brother David Cooper.

Survivors include sons Van (Becky) Penland, Gene (Vicky) Penland; daughter-in-law Tammy Penland; brother, Jerry (Carla) Cooper; sister, Susan (Denny) Patrick; sister-in-law, Janet Cooper; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Denny Patrick and Rev. Patrick Cooper officiating.  Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Guidestone Mission Dignity. 

The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice for their love and care of Marcheta Penland. 

Interment will be in the Peavine Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 4-8 Monday, 12-1 Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory.
