Laverne Hughes

Thelma Laverne Hughes, 74, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 23, 2020. Thelma was born September 1, 1945 to the late Thomas and Jesse Robertson in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. She was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and of the Baptist faith. She worked as a spinner for Dupont in Chattanooga. The only thing she loved more than gardening or cooking was spending time with her loving family.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Forest Robertson.

Survivors include her loving husband of 40 years, Lamar Hughes; sons, Keith McFarland of Rossville and Greg McFarland of Chickamauga; step-children, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Hughes and Kristy (Alonza) Mancilla of Atlanta; siblings, Sammy (Katherine) Robertson of Chickamauga and Viola (Henry) Kirklin of Rossville; mother in-law, Nina Hughes, grandchildren, Bryce and Blake McFarland of Ocoee, TN; 5 step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian Williams officiating. A private family service will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
