John F. Gourley, III, 81 of Fort Oglethorpe passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at his home. Born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John F. Gourley, II and Addie Rittenhouse Gourley, he has been a long time resident of the Chattanooga area. John was of the Catholic faith and served in the U.S. National Guard. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, building model airplanes and was a Civil War buff.
John had a giving spirit and loved his family more than life. His family and friends are missing his smile and kind heart, but rejoice in his homecoming with mom Tootie and brother Tom.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Janice Gourley; children, J.P. Gourley, of Annapolis, MD, Dan Gourley, of Gettysburg, PA, Janet Mason, Louisville, KY; step-daughters, Annette Henshall, Spring Hughes, both of Chattanooga and Shelley Hughes, of Madisonville, TN; brothers, Frank Gourley and Donald Gourley, both of Baltimore; sister, Gretchen Hodgins, of San Francisco; 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held at a later date.
