Joe I. Perkins, 89, of Fort Oglethorpe went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 at his home after a brief illness.
Staff Sergeant Perkins (Retired) served in the U.S. Army, was a Korean War Veteran, and in the National Guard for a total of 23 years. He was also a long distance truck driver for 40 years, retiring from Shaw Industries.
He was a member of Cloud Springs Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class.
He loved God, his country, his family, and being our Poppy.
Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life, his wife of 58 years Betty Perkins, daughters Tami Porter (Brian), Teri Harris (Don), and Kristi Saxon (Bobby) and son Douglas Perkins (Reba), grandchildren, great grandchildren, two sisters Barbara Alexander and Shirley Wheat, and many other cherished family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2021 in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Gardner and Brother Colin Crosen officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
