James Kenneth “Cookie” Goodner
It is with saddened hearts that the family of James Kenneth Goodner announces his passing on November 26, 2019 at the age of 89.
Ken was born March 24, 1930 in Lenoir City TN. He lived most of his life in the Chattanooga, TN and Fort Oglethorpe, GA area. He was the son of the late Farris and Beulah (Weir) Goodner. Ken was a graduate of Central High School in 1949. After High School, Ken joined the United States Air Force. He was a Staff Sargent serving in the Korean War as an aircraft engine mechanic. After being honorably discharged from the military, he enjoyed a successful career at DuPont Chattanooga where he retired after 38 years of service. He was highly respected and loved by his family, friends, and coworkers. He lived for his family and friends. He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, GA.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty; son, Darryl (Janet) Goodner; daughter, Sandra Johnson; grandchildren, Chris Brooks, Jeremy (Shelly) Brooks, Tracie (Jeremy) Hicks, Kylia Goodner, Katie Goodner; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Brooks and Lincoln Hicks.
Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home, 3239 Battlefield Parkway, Fort Oglethorpe, GA, on Tuesday, December 3, from 4 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be 12 PM Wednesday, December 4 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jason Thomas of FBCFO officiating. Burial and a graveside service will follow at 1:30pm at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. Please share your thoughts and memories at www.heritagebattlefield.com.
