Herschel Spivey

Herschel Edward Spivey, 84, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019. He was born August 13, 1934, a son of the late Riley and Ruth Lake Spivey. Herschel was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, TN and Ringgold, GA. He began serving as pianist at Salem Baptist Church at the age of 12 and continued serving churches while attending Carson Newman College and Southern Baptist Seminary. After seminary he served as Minister of Music in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee including local churches, First Baptist Ringgold, East Ridge Baptist, Memorial Baptist in Hixson and First Baptist of Fort Oglethorpe. He founded All Seasons and STI Travel Agencies while continuing his love of church ministry. Herschel loved working with people and found satisfaction in both careers.

Herschel is preceded in death by his brother, Riley Spivey Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Jimmie Nell Spivey of Ringgold; sons, Jeff Spivey of Jacksonville, FL and Bruce Spivey of Chattanooga, TN; sister, Dorothy Pledger of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Katie and Cameron Spivey and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Sunday, January 20 at First Baptist Church Ringgold with Rev. Eric Kennedy officiating. The body will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ringgold Kiwanis club. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Ringgold.
