Henry C “Lefty” DeLay, 90, of the Burning Bush community went home to be with the Lord Monday July 8, 2019. He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, and a member of the South Seminole Baptist Church. Lefty retired from Combustion Engineering and was owner of All Safe Electric. He was a graduate of Rossville High School class of 1946 where he was a member of the Rossville High School Hall of Fame (basketball) and the City of Chattanooga Hall of Fame (baseball). Lefty played baseball for the Joe Engel Lookouts in Chattanooga. He was veteran of the U.S. Army where he played baseball in Europe before being honorably discharged.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Gloria Horton DeLay.
Survivors are sons Dr. Bradley (Diane) DeLay of Dalton and Coach Phil (Terry) DeLay of Ringgold, grandchildren Kristen (Steve) Green of Fort Oglethorpe, Jonathan (Lauren) DeLay of Thomasville, GA, Scott (Avalee) DeLay of Dalton, Allison DeLay of Kennesaw, and Thomas DeLay of Dalton, great grandchildren Grayson Green, Ava and Emma DeLay, and Betsy DeLay. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Friday at South Seminole Baptist Church with Rev. Drew Tankersley officiating. Interment in Burning Bush Baptist Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Men’s (Donut) Sunday School class at South Seminole Baptist Church 1201 South Seminole Dr. East Ridge, TN 37412.
