Hellen F. (Cope) Smith

Hellen F. Cope Smith, 87, of Rossville, went home to be with her Lord peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2020 with her family by her side after an unbelievable courageous battle with Chronic Kidney Disease.  Hellen spent her life helping others; family, friends, and strangers.  She was of the Baptist faith and served her church as well as school organizations in any capacity needed for over 60 years.  After retirement, Hellen was a volunteer for many years with the Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity and numerous food pantries.  She worked well into her 70’s as an office manager and bookkeeper first at Canteen Corporation and later at Crawford Plumbing.  Hellen was a wonderfully, perfect mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friends.  Hellen was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Al Smith, her parents, Jasper Roy and Irene Cope, and six siblings. 

She is survived by her loving son, Jay A. Smith, of Ringgold, GA, as well as many loving nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who all considered her a sister or mother.

Hellen will be missed by many for all of her tireless work for others, as well as her abundance of flowers annually surrounding her home and tomatoes that she so graciously raised to keep her family and friends in great supply.

The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 4-8 PM and 11 AM – 12 Noon on Tuesday.

Graveside services will be at Tennessee – Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery at 1 PM Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Foundation in Hellen’s name.
