Genevieve Thomas, age 96, passed away November 7, 2017 in Knoxville, TN. Born April 16,1921 in Union County, TN to Wency and Nola Ridenour. Preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lee Thomas, and son Oscar Eugene Thomas. She and Oscar were married November 11, 1939 and enjoyed a loving marriage of 64 years. They were the parents of three children, Oscar Eugene, Doyle, and Wen.

Reared during the depression years to struggling parents, Genevieve was sent to live with other families at an early age. After Oscar’s discharge from the Army, they bought a restaurant in Rossville, GA. (Oscar’s) and operated it for forty seven years. They also owned and operated two grocery stores, a relish plant and a beauty salon (Hair Styles by Gee Gee). She possessed a work ethic that was simply outstanding. She “ran the ship” in all of the businesses, reared three children, and taught swim classes in the evenings.

Being of the Baptist faith, she attended Byrams Fork Baptist Church in Union County, TN where she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. She also attended Jones Memorial Baptist Church and Rossville First Baptist Church.

A private family memorial service will be conducted at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
