Elena “Miss Ellie” Lucille Smith, 92, of Rossville, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 13, 2019. Miss Ellie was born December 12, 1926, in Chelsea, MA, to the late Louis and Margaret Ippolito Sera. She attended New Hope Baptist Church. She spent her life in ministry with her husband “Brother Homer” for over 45 years as a pastor’s wife, as well as in the Mission Board office for over 39 years. Miss Ellie was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed serving as a minister’s wife, encouraging other pastor’s and missionary wives, and sharing her time with friends and family. Miss Ellie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. Homer Smith, and her brother Alfred Sera.
She is survived by daughters Cyndie (Rudy) Stembridge of Rossville, Megan (Billy) Levise of Rossville, Susan (Ted) Miller of McDonald, TN, Marianne (Ron) Mucci of Chickamauga, son Greg Smith of Hawaii, sisters Louise Strunk of Revere, MA and Nancy Schmitz of Fort Pierce, FL, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM Sunday at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Wilkinson, Dr. Mike Collingwood, and Dr. Randy Townsend officiating. Entombment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
