David Forrester Mayes

David Forrester Mayes, 95, of Fort Oglethorpe, went home to be with the Lord Friday May 8, 2020 at his residence.

He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area and was a member of Delray Baptist Church.  Mr. Mayes was a well-known area minister of music and loved teaching the Word of God.  He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S Army Air Corp.  David was a CPA and owner operator of David Mayes and Associates. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Mayes, parents, Mitchell and Annie Forrester Mayes, step-daughters, Bettie Keith and Patricia Carson, brothers, Clifford and Fred Mayes, and sisters, Chris Clark and Evelyn Stephenson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 14 years, Joann Mayes, step-sons, Luther (Dot) Eslinger, Don (Elaine) Eslinger, and Jamie (Chris) Smalley, daughter, Pam (Bob) Dorn, step-daughters, Linda (Lowell) Blevins, Kim (Randy) Cole, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and friends of Delray Baptist Church. 

A private graveside service honoring the life of David Mayes will take place Monday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South with Rev. Levonne Powell and Rev. Luther Eslinger officiating.  Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. National Guard.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
