Michael was my younger cousin and he was the perfect blend of his father, David, and mother, Annette. Everyone who was acquainted with Mike, knew him as a philosopher, a person of integrity, a compassionate friend and a lover of life. He had a distant vision that others, might not be able to see. Mike was able to look at complicated issues and immediately see how they might be simplified. Mike always offered a "Humble Opinion" about any issue. He was a role mode as a citizen, and an American! He was an exemplary person.

My thoughts are with Annette, Tonya, Derick and everyone else that knew Mike and called his friend or family. I wish he could have stayed longer on this plane, however, he fulfilled his "mission"! Thank you, Mike, for sharing yourself with us! Thank You!

Mike was such a joy to sit down with and have a spirited discussion on any topic. He was that “Cool Cousin” that we always looked forward to visiting on our family vacations. He turned me on to Olde English, Queen Jazz, AC/DC and loud speakers in my formative years. Decades later we reconnected over politics and economics and found that we had so much in common. I will miss my trips to the ‘Nooga, sharing an Honest Pint, a boxty and philosophical dialogue. Rest in peace, cuz.

Mike was not only a good friend but in a way a mentor to me as I often came to him with questions about various surveying issues. One of the smartest people I ever met. A true intellectual that you could have a conversation with regarding pretty much any subject of which he was usually knowledgeable about. A true advocate and educator of the noble profession of land surveying of which I am very proud to be a part of, he will be truly missed by all of us whose lives he touched, mentored and educated.

Oh and last but not least, cannot leave this condolence to my friend without a big Go Dawgs shout out! I'll be thinking about you in weeks to come with our playoff games!

I have had the great pleasure of knowing Mike, and to respect his dedication as a Professional Surveyor to the mission and activities of both NSPS and TSPS. His enthusiasm for the programs of both organizations is indeed exceptional. Still, it was his demeanor and respect for all with whom he came into contact that demonstrated what a stellar person he was. We, his fellow Professional Surveyors, will miss him immeasurably, and extend to his family our most sincere sympathy.

I was deeply sadden to hear about Mike's passing. He was a good friend and a true professional in every sense. I got to know and respect Mike through our association in TAPS. From this we developed a professional relationship working on a number of projects together and Mike always delivered as promised. Mike was dedicated to his profession and was always working to help his peers. My thoughts and prayers are with Tonya and family during this time of mourning. May God Bless!

Mike made an indelible mark in my life years ago, when I was a young man. He invited me to join a Bible study at the home of his pastor to discuss what I thought I knew of it's contents. My life was changed through that Bible study and Mike became a friend forever. I will never forget playing "air-guitar" in his bedroom to our favorite rock tunes. He was the best man at my wedding, and a friend I truly missed later in life. He will be missed.

I didn't know Mike very long. I appreciated his enthusiasm and commitment to his profession and lifelong learning. He is a quality man, although his physical form is now still. I'm grateful to have known him, and I miss him.

Mike,
Of all the years we worked and spent time together traveling, my favorite times were our discussions about our Lord Jesus and His Great Salvation which He provided for all men. we discussed one time, at length, as to the fact that the scripture teaches us we can "Know" that we are saved. I personally was convinced of your testimony that you had accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, and with that in mind i know i will see you again soon, where we will look out over God's great universe together and go "traversing" thru' His Mighty Galaxies and Stars. Love, you , miss you , but Praise God, i will see you again REAL soon. Goodnight for now! Respectfully, as you named me, i am "StonePile Jones"

I always admired my cousin, Mike. He was witty and had such a strong sense of right and wrong-a true Hollingsworth trait! I always enjoyed his "In My Humble Opinion" writings. He had such a way with words. Prayers to you all at this sad time. Love, Stephanie Hollingsworth-Bernardi
