Charles Joseph Humphrey, 88, of Fort Oglethorpe went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 13, 2022. He was born on December 31, 1933 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Floyd and Edith Humphrey. He was a member of Moriah Baptist Church where he loved serving the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher, Missions Director and Chairman of the Deacons. Mr. Humphrey served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Combustion Engineering after 43 years of service. He was the proud owner and operator of Bible and Religious Book Co. with all the proceeds going to missions. He loved doing anonymous acts of kindness to help those in need. Charles loved tinkering and collecting things, loved a good challenge and was a good deal negotiator.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Jewell Humphrey.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Ella "Billie" Humphrey; son, Keith (Michele) Humphrey; daughters, Cindy Harbour and Carol (late husband, Dewayne Millard); siblings, Gene Humphrey, Jeanette (David) Walker, Norma (Larry) Webb and Ronald (Carol) Humphrey; grandchildren, April Harbour, Brad Harbour, Jessica (Mattison) Johnson and Meagan (Josh) Sexton; great-grandchildren, Miley Johnson, Ava Swaim, Kian Johnson and Molly Sexton; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Moriah Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe, GA 30742 with Pastor Randy Lynn and Dr. Ernest Groce. The body will lie-in-state two hours prior to the service at the church. A private family commital service will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Moriah Baptist Church Missions Fund.
