Tribute

Carol Foster Shoemaker, 71, of Ringgold went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at her home. She was born in Chattanooga, TN on December 25, 1948, to the late Marion and Bessie (Thomas) Foster. Carol graduated from Ringgold High School in 1966 and Carson-Newman College in 1970. She taught at Boynton Elementary from 1970-1974 and again from 1984-89. In 1989 Carol began a 19 year career in adult education with Walker Technical Institute where she taught in the program for 10 years and served as Director of Adult Education for 9 years over four counties before her retirement from Northwestern Technical College.

Carol was a member of Burning Bush Baptist where she served as a Sunday School teacher to all ages from children to adults, and taught the Friendship/Fellowship Adult Class for over twenty years. In the last few years, she served as a substitute for several adult classes. Carol was on various committees including the history, guest assistants, by-laws, nominating and pastor search. She was involved in missions organizations as leader to GA’s and served as WMU Director. Carol enjoyed music and sang with the adult and Primetime Senior Choir. In more recent years she served as a Trustee.

Carol’s hobby was writing and she enjoyed writing plays for church and schools, poetry that she shared with her family and friends, and used her skill to develop a handbook when she served as leader of guest assistants. Carol self-published a book for children that was illustrated by her friend, Sandra Babb. Her family and friends often received one of Carol’s Cards designed for a special occasion.

In retirement, Carol was active in Catoosa Retired Educators Association where she served as president and on various committees. She enjoyed being a part of the Tea Room Girls and spending time with her friends. There was nothing she cherished more than time spent with all her family and celebrating holidays and birthdays with them. Her children and grandchildren were at the center of her life and love.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Tom and Elizabeth Foster; Bun and Eula Thomas; and parents, Marion and Bessie Foster-Houston.
