Betty Jean Smith

Betty Jean Smith (Higgins), loving wife and precious mother, age 88, of Chattanooga went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
 
Betty was born on June 18, 1932 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Lawrence and Mertice Higgins. She married Wilford Smith on March 10, 1952 and they raised a son, Eugene Smith. She received her LPN degree from Chattanooga State and was employed by Erlanger Hospital for 37 years. Betty had a passion for playing piano, singing, cooking, sewing and collecting Elvis memorabilia. She also loved taking care of her patients and teaching Sunday School at Clifton Hills Baptist Church. She was known for her quick wit, her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
 
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wilford Smith.
 
Survivors include her son, Eugene Smith.
 
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 26, 2021 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
