Betty Jane Cates, 85 of Rossville passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at her home. She was a life-long resident of Rossville and attended Ridge Crest Baptist Church. She grew up in Lupton City and graduated from Hixson High School where she lettered in basketball. Betty was retired from Standard Coosa Thatcher and she got a degree in cosmetology.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Cates.

Survivors include her son, Eddie (Donna) Cates; daughters, Jean Cates Dabovich and Cynthia Gail Cates; sisters, Helen Springfield Epperson and Faye (Paul) Springfield Shelton; grandchildren, Jody Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins, Julie Simpson and Christy Smith; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews. Betty Cates was the matriarch of a 5th generation family.

Pallbearers will be Jody Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins, Nathan Jenkins, Danny Smith, Gregg Shelton and Cris Shelton. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Shelton and Eli Shelton.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
