Bert E. Vanoer

July 6, 1933 ~ August 9, 2018 (age 85)

Bert Eugene Vanoer, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 9, 2018. Bert was born July, 6, 1933 to the late Robert Hamilton and Amanda Catherine (Wallace) Vanoer in East Chattanooga. TN. He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State University, serving his senior year as class president. Bert served in the U.S Air Force and was honorably discharged as Staff Sargent, later serving three years in the Air Force Reserves. Bert was a faithful Christian and a member of Temple Baptist Church in Chattanooga. A long-time member of the Concord Golf Club, he was an avid and passionate golfer. He enjoyed playing golf with his family, especially his brothers and nieces. He worked in the insurance industry at Crawford Company and State Farm for many years. Bert was also a former member of the Masonic Fidelity Lodge #558.

Bert is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Martha Anne Perry Vanoer; parents; brothers Carl (Wilma) , Bruce (Evadine) , Ray Earl  and Lee Vanoer; sisters Maude, Blanche and Mae Vanoer (Walt) Dixon; grandparents Richard and Betsy Snyder Vanover; and niece Hazel Marie Bryzek and nephew Robert C. Vanoer, Sr.

He is survived by his daughters Larisa Cotten, Lori (Wesley) Boatman, and son Greg Vanoer; grandchildren Jason ( Morgan ) Boatman, Stephen Boatman, Jonathan Cotten, Ashlee Vanoer, Garrett Vanoer, and Landon Vanoer; brother Clyde (Lavada) Vanoer, sister-in-law Betty Vanoer, niece Helen Bowman Dillon and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, August 13, at Heritage Funeral Home (Fort Oglethorpe, GA) with Rev. Mark Carpenter  and Rev. Damon Perry officiating.

Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tapestry Hospice in Calhoun, GA.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 12, from 4-8 p.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, August 13, at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
