Tribute

Rebecca Fackler (Becky) McGregor, 95, died peacefully on August 11 at her home in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.  She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her as having a generous spirit, a kind heart, a love of nature, a desire for justice and endless empathy for others.

Becky was born on February 6, 1924 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Faye Kennedy Fackler and Walter F. Fackler.  She graduated from Red Bank High School in 1942.  When her family moved to Mobile, Alabama, she developed a lifelong love of horses and horseback riding.  After returning to Chattanooga, she worked in the display department at Loveman’s Department Store.  Becky married Clarence A. (Unk) McGregor in 1945 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where their four children were born.  The family moved to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia in 1958, where Unk was a partner in Jemco, Inc.  Becky raised her four children and was very active in her community.  She was a founding member of the Fort Oglethorpe Preservation Society and took great pride in sharing stories of and taking action to ensure the integrity of “The Post” in Fort Oglethorpe, home of the 6th Cavalry, for future generations.  She was instrumental in having The Post included on the National Register of Historic Places.  Becky represented Catoosa County on the Northwest Georgia Regional Library Board, was a member of the Fort Oglethorpe Chamber of Commerce and a member of Christ Church-Episcopal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. McGregor, her youngest son, Gregor McGregor, and her brother, Mark K. Fackler.

She is survived by three of her four children, Lucinda M. Robinson (Peter), Sarah M. Streiff (Jeffrey) and Alexander McGregor (Leslie Smith); her daughter-in-law, Deborah H. McGregor; her grandchildren, Molly R. Green, Cameron M. Robinson, H. Parker Norton, Jordan A. Streiff, Micah J. Streiff, Cory A. Streiff, Benjamin R. Gale, Rowan C. McGregor, Keely R.
