Barbara Anne Poole

January 18, 1935 ~ October 9, 2021 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Tribute

Barbara Anne Lawhon Poole, 86, of Fort Oglethorpe went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 9, 2021. She was surrounded by her family and passed peacefully in the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Noah and Donnie Mae Lawhon.

Barbara was one of a kind. Her happy place was sitting on her back porch, reading a good book and drinking a glass of tea. Barbara was a member of Fort Oglethorpe First Baptist Church. She was a long time educator in Hamilton County and retired from East Ridge High School. She always said those were the happiest years of her teaching career. She met Bimol Poole in 1956 at Florence State, now the University of North Alabama. They dated for one week, married in Iuka, Mississippi on June 5, 1956 and were together for 66 years. Together they raised four children, traveled extensively and loved to ride together in their motorhome and sing “Side by Side”. She loved the Lord, she loved our Dad, she loved her children and grandchildren and her great-grandkids. She loved her friends, especially her dearest long-time (sister from another mother) Catherine Springer. She also loved Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson.

Left to cherish the memories are her husband, Bimol Poole and her three girls and son, Kim Armstrong (Doug Swafford), Beth McDonald (Rodney), Laura Parrish (Scott) and Steve Poole (Rosie). Her grandchildren, Ginny Chamlee, Andy Poole, Danny Armstrong, Carrie Godwin, Billy Zimmerman, Elizabeth Lawhorn, Ricky McDonald, Lauren Young, Matthew Parrish, Lindsey Parrish and Sarah Parrish. She is also survived her 11 great-grandchildren whom she adored; her sister, Betty Sue Sprinkle; and special cousins, Mary McClendon and James Weeks; along with several nieces and nephews.

We are sad for her to leave us and grieving our loss, but so happy she is whole again and the wife, mother and meme that we knew before dementia and covid took her away.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 15 at 12 Noon at the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe. The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church.
