Welcome to the memorial page for

Oliver "Buddy" VanBuren Dunn, Jr.

September 5, 1943 ~ July 6, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Oliver VanBuren “Buddy” Dunn, Jr., loving husband, father and grandfather passed into his Savior’s glory on July 6, 2017.  Buddy was born September 5, 1943 to O.V. Dunn, Sr. and Virginia Dunn in St. Elmo.  He graduated from City High School in 1961.  Buddy married the love of his life, Jay Saterfield, on April 11, 1964.  After graduation Buddy began working at Clift-Smith, which later became Lee-Smith.  After working at Lee-Smith for 47 years he retired in 2009.   Never one to sit around, he subsequently returned to work part time at Lee-Smith for the next 8 years.

Our sweet husband and father would drop everything for anyone to fix something that was broken, no matter the weather or time of day.  His knowledge of diesel engines and trucks was only slightly surpassed by the commitment and love that he showed to his family.  We rejoice in the knowledge that Buddy knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and that we will see him again.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 53 of years, Jay Dunn; daughter and son-in-law, Kelley and Ralph Woodard; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Leslie Dunn; brother, Tom (Rita) Dunn, and sister, Judy (Aubrey) Rogers; grandchildren:  Kelyn Woodard, Micah Woodard, Wicks Woodard, Paulos Woodard, Jacob Dunn and Jones Dunn.

Visitation will be in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church Chattanooga on Monday, July 10, from 10am to noon with services to follow at 12 Noon.  Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Dunn, Jones Dunn, Ralph Woodard, Wicks Woodard, Paulos Woodard, Umar Muhammad, Mike Alston and Less Lee.
