David was born in Henry County, Alabama on September 22, 1930, as the first child of the late Robert Ward and Vera Mae Jones Winget. By faith he accepted Jesus’ promise of free salvation in April, 1947, and his new birth became the central pivot of his life.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Chattanooga and a regular participant in the Maranatha Sunday School class. Dr. Winget served the Lord as a professor of Systematic Theology at Temple Baptist Theological Seminary in Chattanooga for 46 years, but he also planted two churches and pastored two others. Literally hundreds of his former students and parishioners have ministered across the globe.

He is survived by his siblings: a sister, Bobbie Mae (Raymond) Snipes, a brother, Earl Winget, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Winget; his sons: Steve (Cheryl), David (Penny), and Phillip (Amy), and a daughter: Joy (John) Smotherman, as well as 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (Central & Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean account).
